Recent floods cause extensive damage to public, private properties in Rajouri: Govt | KNO

Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government has confirmed that the recent flash floods in Rajouri district during August–September 2025 caused extensive damage to both public and private properties, including agricultural land, residential houses, and livestock. In a written reply to a question by MLA Iftikhar Ahmad, the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction stated that a joint verification by the Revenue Department found widespread losses to residential houses, cattle sheds and commercial establishments. The government, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) informed that compensation has been provided to the affected families as per State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) norms — Rs 4 lakh for death cases, Rs 62,790 for house damage, Rs 48,000 for cattle sheds, and Rs 1.62 lakh for livestock loss. The reply further mentioned that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth Rs 9.63 crore has been prepared for protection and flood control works along Rajouri Tawi and its tributaries, and funding sources are being explored for timely implementation. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also deputed an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) to assess the damages and recommend financial assistance. The IMCT visited the affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir in early September 2025. The government added that relief measures are being implemented as per SDRF/NDRF guidelines to restore essential public infrastructure and support livelihood rehabilitation for affected families—(KNO)
